BACKGROUND
The Pavilion, a 1.5-million-square-foot site at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, reflects the caliber of Penn Medicine's reputation, and was also designed with patient experience at its core.
CHALLENGE
How can we infuse a state-of-the-art facility with an authentic spirit that patients and employees will appreciate?

solution
First, HHP handpicked two unique brands for the ~3,000 SF footprint in the Pavilion: Bower Café, run by local entrepreneur Thane Wright, and Root & Sprig, a healthy fast casual concept. Next, HHP renovated the legacy gift shop in the adjacent hospital and added a gift outpost to the Pavilion. Merchandise includes employees' favorite snacks, products from local makers, and Philly sports team merch. Each experience raises the bar on quality and helps Penn Medicine showcase its community pride.
